About Us

PIONEERING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN NURSING

The AI Nurses Network is a clinical research network designed to support and advance the role of nurses in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). It comprises an interdisciplinary team of nurses and AI experts, with a core team based in the United Kingdom and a network of country directors worldwide along with an independent advisory board that offers ongoing advice and support.

Country directors

The AI Nurses Network is expanding globally with nurses who specialise in artificial intelligence taking the lead for their country. The country director(s) promote the training and educational resources, seed funding and scholarships, and news and events that the network provides to supports nurses around the world in developing and applying AI techniques and AI tools in their professional practice to improve patient care and population health. 

Asia

Hong Kong 

Dr Vivian Hui is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and an adjunct faculty at the School of Nursing, University of Pittsburgh, USA. Her research interests intersect health technology innovation, domestic violence, and nursing informatics including artificial intelligence. She leads the AI Nurses Network in Hong Kong and is also the global education lead for the network. 

Taiwan

Dr Lu-Yen Anny Chen is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing, at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. Her research interests integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning in nursing practice particularly in post operative care. She leads the AI Nurses Network in Taiwan and across south-east Asia with the other Asian leads.

Japan

Professor Janet Delgado is a Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Yamaguchi University in Japan and Editor-in-chief of Nursing & Health Sciences. Her research interests centre on philosophy and bioethics with a particular focus on exploring the ethics issues around developing and applying artificial intelligence in nursing. She leads the AI Nurses Network in Japan. 

Europe

Slovenia

Dr Lucija Gosak is a nursing researcher at the University of Maribor, Slovenia. Her research interests are the integration of information and communication technology into people’s lives for the purpose of maintaining health. She is currently working on integrating mobile health applications into the care of patients with chronic disease and exploring artificial intelligence in nursing education. She leads the AI Nurses Network in Slovenia and across Europe with the other European leads.

North America

Canada

Dr Charlene Chu is an Associate Professor at the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto, and an Affiliate Scientist at KITE Toronto Rehab at the University Health Network. She is cross-appointed (status only) with the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work’s Institute for Life Course & Aging, as well as the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto. She leads an interdisciplinary team including engineers, computer scientists, physiotherapists, and nurses and holds two patents about novel computer vision applications for the functional assessments of older adults. She co-leads the AI Nurses Network in Canada with Dr Charlene Ronquillo and across the Americas with the other north, central and south American leads. 

Dr Charlene Ronquillo is a Filipina scholar, Registered Nurse, health informatician, and lead of the Health Informatics Equity Lab at the School of Nursing, University of British Columbia. Her work aims to improve equity in healthcare with thoughtful, meaningful, and inclusive technologies and improve equity in health informatics through critical approaches to health technology development, implementation, including the evaluations that ensure the meaningful inclusion of non-dominant groups in the conceptualization, design, development, and implementation of health technologies in health systems. She co-leads the AI Nurses Network in Canada with Dr Charlene Chu and across the Americas with the other north, central and south American leads.
