AI Nurses Network Conference 2026

More than 200 nurses from across the UK and beyond gathered in central London to attend the inaugural AI Nurses Network Conference on 1st September 2026. Hosted at King’s College London, the audience came to hear from nurses pioneering artificial intelligence (AI) models and tools in professional practice.
Professor Clare Cable, Chief Executive of the Burdett Trust for Nursing which funds the AI Nurses Network, opened the conference with an invigorating speech about sustainability in healthcare and the importance of using AI responsibly.

The morning keynote speaker, Elizabeth Nassuna from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, gave an inspiring talk about her journey developing a novel AI-based digital tool to track calcium levels in older people to prevent osteoporosis and bone fractures. She was followed by Dr Sahar Konsari from Edinburgh Napier University who spoke about using AI agents to promote behaviour change in people with cardiovascular disease.

A clinical academic collaboration between Oxford University NHS Foundation Trust and Oxford Brookes University was next, with Pavana Pillai and Dr Marion Waite presenting their prototype AI predictive tool for post-operative patient care which was piloted with nurses locally.
Before lunch, Dr Mengying Zhang from King’s College London presented a new evidence-based AI ethics toolkit for nurses and midwives developed from a comprehensive systematic review. A lively panel discussion between the audience and speakers on the virtues of AI in healthcare rounded off the morning of the conference.
The afternoon of the AI Nurses Network Conference was opened by Andreia Trigo an award-winning nurse entrepreneur who is the founder and CEO of Enhanced Fertility. She presented her AI enhanced digital platform that supports couples and families experiencing fertility issues and talked about breaking into the U.S. market having developed her digital tool in the UK.

A Chief Nursing Informatics Officer from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool was the next to present, with Peter White discussing the use of AI scribing and AI triaging tools by paediatric nurses in the hospital to enhance care for children and young people.

This was followed by two nursing information officers Mafalda Gomes from Guy’s and St Tomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Tayo Opinede from King’s College Hospital who discussed the work their team had done co-designing and piloting an AI summarisation tool to support end of shift nursing documentation and handover. The final speaker was Zainab Qazi who gave an overview of the NHS Clinical Fellowship in AI which is open to nurses across the UK to apply for.
Another panel discussion followed before Howard Catton, CEO of the International Council of Nurses, closed the conference with some key messages for nurses about how the profession worldwide should embrace AI.

Dr Siobhan O’Connor from the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care at King's College London who organised the conference said:
“We were delighted to see so many nurses interested in and active in the AI space in healthcare as it’s a rapidly growing and important area nurses need to be involved in. The conference showcased the very best of nursing and how we are using AI to improve patient care and health service outcomes in the NHS.
Given the huge response we’ve had from nurses across the UK and beyond, we plan to make the AI Nurses Network Conference an annual event so that we can share lessons learned and get more nurses involved in AI in healthcare. I want to say a big thank you to our funders and the team here at King’s for supporting the conference as it’s an important area for nurses to be active in”.
The conference, which was the first in the world to focus on artificial intelligence in nursing, was funded by the NIHR Academy, King’s College London, and the Burdett Trust for Nursing. All video recordings of speakers from the AI Nurses Network Conference 2026 are available on YouTube here.
